The two-step paint treatment and transparent layer prevent the paint from fading in all weathers. The ZSB was the cheapest 125 in the UK when Bikesocial reviewed it a few years ago (although it was even cheaper at the time) – and it still is today. This alone is worth taking a look at. As you might expect, this is a simple, no-frills machine: the Chinese-made machine will be introduced in the UK and renamed by British discount bike specialist Lexmoto, which has earned a well-deserved reputation as a market leader in recent years. As such, the specially designed ZSB is about as simple as they are equipped with an air-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces a modest 11.4 horsepower, making it good for about 65 miles per hour; a single-loop steel tube frame; Rudimentary suspension with dual shock absorber and single dial instrumentation with LCD panel for speedometer, fuel gauge and display. That said, it does what it intends to do, more than adequately, comes with a luggage rack and molded alloy wheels, and is a breeze to drive. For the money, it is almost impossible to criticize. WK is another leading British company that has grown significantly in recent years on the basis of a similar business model to Lexmoto, where Chinese-built bikes are imported into the UK and then sold under the WK brand through WK dealers. Starting with smaller, simpler machines, WK`s range now includes 50s and 125s, the cheapest of the latter being the WK Scrambler from £1799, the latest and most elegant being this Ducati monster-like demon priced at just under £2000. It`s also elegant.
The lattice-style frame is a virtual brooch from the Italian, as is its curved red tank, inverted forks and snubbed headlight. Instead of a liquid-cooled V-Twin, however, there is an air-cooled single-cylinder engine. But hey, if it looks so good, for that money, who cares? Oh, and while we`re talking about 125cc doppelgängers, WK also makes the £1899 Colt, which is a more affordable twin of Honda`s fashionable Grom mini-moto. Just when you might start thinking that all cheap retro motorcycles come with modern names you`ve never heard of, how about that – the AJS Cadwell 125 with not one, but two big British motorcycle names. If you don`t already know that AJS is one of the great historic British bike brands, at the top with Triumph and BSA and the most famous for its best riders in the world of the 1930s and 40s. Although it collapsed along with most of the rest of British industry in the 1960s, it was revived on a much smaller scale as an off-road specialist in the 1970s, and then began importing and renaming small, affordable Chinese machines in the late 1990s, as others included here have since done. More recently, some of them have begun to adopt the classic British style, in what AJS calls its Heritage series. The Cadwell 125 roadster, the Café Racer Cadwell Clubman (pictured), the Tempest Roadster and the Tempest Scrambler 125 are the result. The mechanics and performance are similar to many other bikes here in that it is a simple 125cc air-cooled in a single tubular frame made of double shock absorber steel with modern additions. But the style – and the name on the tank – takes it to another level! Similar to Lexmoto, Sinnis is a British brand of economy motorcycles founded in Brighton in 2006 that brings motorcycles from one of the leading Chinese manufacturers, in this case Jinan Qingqi, to their own design, but with the Sinnis brand in the UK. The first of these based on an old Suzuki engine was the Sinnis Apache 125. The company has grown considerably since then, its bikes have evolved in an i9mpressive way, Sinnis now has 135 dealers in the UK and claims to be the number.
1 for low capacity bikes and scooters in the UK. It currently has a number of eight different 125cc bikes, the cheapest being the Akuma, a Honda Grom-style mini-bike with lattice frame, LED lights and more, but they also offer the Bomber Café Racer (£2145), Hoodlum Bobber (£2199), RSX125 Roadster (£2199), Apache Supermoto (£2399) and Blade X Trail Bike (also £2399). It should be said here from the beginning that some of the names and motorcycles we found will be unknown. If the right market is everything, as with any product, we are not talking about the most well-known and proven brands. So you won`t find any Suzukis or Kawasakis – their cheapest 125s right now both cost over £4000. Similarly, there are no BMWs, Ducatis or Triumph. Although Honda and Yamaha are getting closer with their CB125F (£2829) and YS125 (£2899) respectively. Keeway is another of the leading Chinese motorcycle brands, in fact, they are one of the brands of the huge Qiangjiang Group, the largest motorcycle manufacturer in China, which now also owns Benelli, and are brought to the UK by MotoGB, the UK`s largest independent motorcycle dealer, both factors that bring some assurance. They also specialize in the 125. The RKS 125 Roadster is its cheapest offering, starting at £1899 plus OTR fees, with this sporty version slightly over £100 more. But they also offer the Superlight Custom (£2099), TX125 Trailie (£2199), which is also available in Supermoto version, K-Light Bobber (£2299); RKF 125 Sport naked (£2499) and RKR125 First class Sportster (£2499).
All are based on similar four-stroke singles, are elegantly and decently built, come with two-year warranties and are available on HP with a £99 deposit from just £39 pm. Zontes is another Chinese brand that has made giant strides in recent years, producing not only five different affordable 125s, starting with the Firefly, but also for 2019, including a range of stylish, A2-compliant, single-cylinder 310cc machines – all at very enticing prices. The Firefly Roadster, brought to the UK by Clements Moto dealers, who also import Motorini and Baotian machines, is its cheapest model, although you`d be hard to tell by the specs. The Euro4-compliant fuel-injected single is worn in a tubular double-dampening steel frame, but looks much more modern than the Lexmoto ZSB thanks to the smooth, angular styling with a headlight hood and LED lights, cast alloy wheels and decent instruments consisting of an analog speedometer with separate LCD panel for speedometer, odometer, speedometer, etc. Like Lexmoto`s 125 machines, it now comes with a two-year warranty on parts and labor for added safety. Just to prove that not all of the cheapest 125 motorcycles available are Chinese, the cheapest offering from the increasingly respected Taiwanese company Kymco is also in our top 10. Kymco (or Kwang Yang Motor Co) was founded in 1963 and produces more than 570,000 scooters, motorcycles and ATVs per year, with scooters from 50cc to 550cc, and even produced Kawasaki`s 125 and 300cc scooters under agreement. The VSR is a sharp-style roadster powered by a simple air-cooled four-stroke and has some nice touches like screens in disguise.
Kymco also offers it on a PCP deal that requires a £416 down payment followed by monthly payments of just £39. This allows you to ride bikes up to 125 cc on the road, which produce a maximum power of 15 hp / 11 kW with a power-to-weight ratio of no more than 0.1 kW per kg. So, taking into account all that are the cheapest new learning bikes – in this case, we focus on the most popular category of learners, the 125. MASH motorcycles are one of the new types of fashionable and affordable lightweight motorcycle brands that use Chinese mechanics combined with European hipster style to offer stylish and affordable retro runabouts in a classic British style. Introduced in France but brought to the UK, their models are mostly air-cooled singles, originally 125.s, but now have a plethora of 50 to 650cc models. Of its five 125 Roadsters, the newest – and most affordable – is the Seventy, which follows a familiar format of air-cooled single-cylinder engine, dual-shock tubular chassis, single-disc front disc brake and base watches. More than most, however, MASH is characterized by classic and retro styling accents, so the Seventy also has the fashionable brown seat, fork gaiters, semi-sharp tires, and even a wrapped exhaust.
Bikes are not becoming more fashionable for the money. From one extreme Lexmoto to another. If the Chinese economy bike specialist`s ZSB is its cheapest 125 offering, then the sleek new LXR Sportster is its most expensive – although it`s still a good deal at just over £2,000. So no, the LXR is not included here as it is one of the cheapest 125, more to book and demonstrate the full range of Lexmoto 125 that simply does not exist to include them all here. In fact, at the time of writing, there are 10 more Lexmoto 125s, from £1399 roadsters to £1999 Supermotos, with thumbs, naked sport and everything in between, currently in between.
