Automatic knives (switch knives) have been legal in Michigan since 10.10.2017. The main question in a concealed carrying case is: “Was the weapon hidden?” People v Jones, 12 Mich App 293 (1968) and Michigan Model Criminal Jury Instruction 11.2 make it clear that concealment does not mean complete invisibility. A weapon is concealed only if “it is not easily visible to those who come into contact with the accused.” M Crim JI 11.2(3). This standard is delicate and extremely fact-specific. A knife can be covered if only part of the handle protrudes from a pocket. A normally held knife is probably not hidden, although the owner`s hand covers the handle. People v. Kincade, 233 NW2d 54 (1975). MCL 750.227 only requires that the weapon be hidden for a while. A person who openly carries a knife and temporarily hides it is likely guilty of violating Michigan`s concealed carrying law. People v. Iacopelli, 30 Mich App 105 (1971).
So, since I`m a minor, can I hide a sliding dagger? Wait, so it`s legal to carry a tomahawk/axe here in Michigan. I`m thinking of buying one for self-defense, but I want to be completely legal. Any advice would be nice, thank you. At what age can you buy a knife in Michigan? I can`t find the answer anywhere. Butterfly knives have long been the exception to old laws that stated that automatic or gravity blades were illegal. As long as it is not a double-edged butterfly knife and is not carried with the intention of injuring it, it can be worn concealed. This is a very useful article. I mainly came here to find out if Balisongs are legal and if switchblas are not so good. Someone corrects me if this has changed or if I misunderstand, but as of October 11, 2017, MCL ยง 750.226a has been repealed. This would mean that switching blades are legal. Again, I ask everyone to correct me if this has changed.
Thank you From what you said, can I carry a folding knife hidden in my pocket as long as I have no illegal intent? It`s true? United States -(Ammoland.com)- Knife Rights` SB 245 bill to repeal Michigan`s switch blade ban goes into effect today, October 10, 2017. This is a massive victory for knife rights in the state of Michigan. Is a push knife considered a dagger because it is double-sided and I do not understand if you can carry a sliding knife? It`s about daggers and double-edged swords. I`m interested in a defensive push, but with only one advantage. Are they legal to wear in Michigan? Spring knives are not automatic knives. I wear one from time to time. Not illegal. It has no utilitarian function as it is worn hidden on the person and is used to break someone`s throat or eviscerate them. Outright illegal.
You can use a Spyderco Hawkbill in the same way, but you can`t say it “just meant to be used as a weapon.” I don`t know if Michigan would see it that way. The ONLY type of OTF knife that is NOT legal to transport in Michigan is one that is double-edged like a dagger and therefore falls under the definition of “dirk, dagger or other dagger instrument”. I suspect that the “Guardfather” spiked weapon would also fall under this definition. It is illegal. Get another knife to carry around Michigan and leave your blade at home. 2.) Walk with a knife of any length, which is not switch blades, an automatic knife or gravimeter, case and seen. is legal and recommended. Well, the knife may look the same but may not have the same function, I would say you should talk to the police, the local police, because talking to them about it can help you get things back in order faster than getting arrested or getting into trouble because you have a knife you weren`t sure about.
People v. Smith (1975) stated that the term “other dangerous weapon” should be understood to include other types of stabbing instruments. Therefore, carrying a non-hunting knife with a blunt tip is not illegal. Some diving knives have blunt spikes and according to this law, you can wear them hidden. To further underscore this point, People v. Grandberry in 1980 stated that axes (superior tomahawks for tactical purposes) are not considered dangerous weapons in this clause because they cannot be used to stab other people. From these two cases, we know that as long as the knife cannot be used to stab other people, it is legal to wear it hidden. It`s hard to say move one state to another, but with common sense, once you cross state borders, you`re under state and federal law that`s everywhere. So I would say if it`s legal to wear a switch blade in Indiana, then you can carry it there, but since they`re illegal in Michigan, I`d say no. Can I carry a knife (2.5-inch blade) that locks? So, is it legal for me to carry my Bowie hunting knife, which is obviously over 3 inches long, as long as I carry it without any harmful intent? Can I wear a concealed fixed blade? If so, are there any limits such as length or point? I thought of this knife www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NM7VJO4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_5&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER (It wouldn`t be used for hunting, more for purposes like opening boxes.
B@DPersonnellement, I would even feel legitimate as a hidden knife. I also support the fact that it is more of a tool. How about legal or illegal cars from next week Wednesday????? While the Michigan state legislature gives little guidance on the length of the blade, it provides even less clarity on the total length of the blade. According to the current state of the law, a person can legally carry two or more swords with sheath; Although you can expect it to attract a lot of attention. No, butterfly knives are legal to some extent.
