Registration form for meetings with the UCI services of the CSSF An alternative investment fund manager (AIFM) is any legal entity whose regular commercial activity is the management of one or more alternative investment funds (AIFs). Managers are subject to the law of 12 July 2013 on alternative investment fund managers. Under the AIFMD, Member States must ensure that each AIF managed under the AIFMD has a single AIFMD responsible for compliance with the AIFMD. An AIFM is defined as an entity that provides at least portfolio management and risk management services for one or more AIFs in the course of its normal business, regardless of where the AIFs are located or the legal form that the AIFM takes. The AIFM may be either an external AIFM appointed by the AIF or on behalf of the AIF itself (therefore, any delegate asset manager should not be an AIFM). This section aims to facilitate users` access to all information relating to the regulation of AIFMs (AIFM). AiFM refers to legal entities whose usual activity consists in the management of one or more alternative investment funds (AIFs). The AIFM is either: An AIFM is authorised to use the portfolio management and risk management services of the AIF in accordance with the European Communities (Alternative Investment Funds Directives) Regulations 2013 (“the Regulation”). An AIFM below the thresholds established pursuant to Article 4(2) must be registered with the central bank.

Subject to detailed provisions (e.g. the original supervisory authority is informed in advance; see here), the functions of an AIFM may be delegated (and sub-delegated) to other service providers. September 2014 The AIFM is responsible for ensuring compliance with the AIFMD for each AIF it manages, although such compliance may be beyond its control. If the AIFM is unable to ensure compliance, the AIF can no longer be marketed in the EU and the AIFM must withdraw from the AIF as an AIFM.
