2018 – As Minnesota`s largest community foundation, the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundations and our donors have reached an important milestone: More than $1 billion has been donated to Minnesota communities since the foundations` inception. The Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, the state`s largest community foundation, has a rich history of serving East Metro and communities across the state. Our foundation grew out of the joint efforts of two community foundations – the Saint Paul Foundation and the Minnesota Community Foundation – which, over time, have merged into one. To achieve accreditation, we rigorously reviewed our policies and procedures against 26 national standards in five key areas of the Community Foundation, including mission, structure and governance; resource development; Responsibility and accountability; grants; and donor relations. They are worthy legal aid organizations. I am thrilled that one of our community foundations is supporting such great causes. The Paul Foundation recently announced grants of $3,272,825 to community groups, including several major grants to legal organizations. The Children`s Law Center in St. Paul received two grants of $25,000 each to fund training for lawyers involved in the Ramsey tenure project, as well as training for lawyers working to find tenure for older teens. The Farmer`s Legal Action Group of St. Paul received $35,000 to fund the East Metro Hmong American Farmers Project, which provides legal assistance, including advice on risk management and disaster relief issues. In addition, the Volunteer Lawyers Network raised $40,000 to fund Linea Legal Latina in the Eastern Metropolitan Area, a legal helpline and referral source for low-income Spanish-speaking clients.
